Art book Center, Set up in 1970, caters to discerning buyers of books on Indian art, architecture, textile design, crafts and Indian miniature paintings. It is a must see place for booklovers and buyers. Situated on the first floor of an old building near the Jain Temple, Madalpur (Ellisbridge), It can be easily missed. From far, it looks like a 'haveli'. You reach the bookshop by climbing a freshy painted wooden staircase. A bell tied to a metal chain hanging alongside the handrail announces your arrival.

The fragrance of incense sticks envelopes you. You enter a new world as it were....

The begining of the bookshop were very humble. It was while working for another shop specializing in rare and out of print books that Manharbhai Patel decided to venture on his own. Initially he started selling books on all subjects but later decided to specialize on Indian art, architecture, miniature paintings, textile design and Indian classical danses.

The growing business is now taken care of by the next generation leaving ample time for Manharbhai to concentrate on expanding the operations.

Art Book Center was open for many years only week from 10.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. during weekends. It is now open all days.

Arto Book Center stocks books of publishers such as Marg, Lalit Kala Akademi, National Museum, Calico Museum, National Gallery of Modern Art, Thames and Hudson (UK), Mapin Publ. Pvt. Ltd, etc.

It is now become a favourite shop for diplomates, architects, interior designers, artists, painters, researchers and many more. Book lovers from all over India and abroad make it a point to visit Art Book Center while in Ahmedabad. There are regular visitors from the United States of America, Australia, Germany, NewZealand, U.K., Japan, Russia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ceylon, Nepal, Africa, Kenya, Etc.
